Preschool H Week: How Do You Feel About Theme Activities at School?

It was “H” week at Ella’s preschool this week, and I love theme weeks. I didn’t have many themed activities as a child—school was just school—so I enjoy experiencing them through my daughter. They’re a fun way for kids to express themselves and for parents to join in the excitement.

Monday was Favorite Hat Day. Ella chose a big, floppy hat from her favorite store, Gymboree, and wore it proudly all morning.

Wednesday was Super Hero Day. Ella dressed up as Flower Girl, a sweet and imaginative hero whose magical water makes flowers grow instantly. She loved telling everyone about her powers and pretending to save the day with blossoms.

Thursday was Crazy Hair Day, and Ella transformed into Rainbow Hair Girl. I wasn’t sure how three different colors of temporary spray would look on her light hair and worried the colors might mix into an unintended shade.

I’m pretty sure Crazy Hair Day was our favorite. The colors blended nicely without turning dark or muddy, and the effect was cheerful and bright. I was also relieved that the color washed out easily—no stained scalp and no tears, just lots of smiles.

Theme weeks like these are simple, playful ways for children to be creative, build confidence, and enjoy school in new ways. They give families something to plan for and remember, too. I’m already curious what the next theme week will be—whatever it is, I’m sure Ella will have a blast.

What do you think? Do you enjoy theme-related activities at your child’s school, or do they feel like more hassle than they’re worth?
