If you want an effortless game-day snack or party treat, these two ingredient dough pretzel bites are hard to beat. They work equally well baked in the oven or cooked in an air fryer.

Two ingredient dough is as convenient as it sounds: Greek yoghurt combined with self-raising flour. The dough is ready to use immediately, so there’s no need to wait for yeast to rise or for any proofing time.

After mixing the dough, simply roll it into ropes, cut into bite-sized pieces, and cook. Finish the bites by brushing them with melted butter and sprinkling with flaky salt for the classic pretzel taste and texture.

These pretzel bites offer a tender, doughy centre and a slightly chewy exterior. They’re a carb-lover’s delight and take only minutes to prepare and cook, making them an ideal last-minute crowd-pleaser.

INGREDIENTS

These pretzel bites require just four ingredients. Exact amounts are listed in the recipe card below.

  • Greek yoghurt — use a thick Greek yoghurt, not thin or runny plain yoghurt.
  • Self-raising (self-rising) flour — if you only have plain/all-purpose flour, add 2 teaspoons baking powder per cup of flour.
  • Butter — melted, for brushing after cooking.
  • Pretzel salt or flakey sea salt (regular sea salt works if needed).

INSTRUCTIONS

IN THE OVEN

Preheat the oven to 180°C / 350°F and line a baking tray with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

Put 1 cup Greek yoghurt in a mixing bowl and stir to loosen it. Add 1 cup of self-raising flour and mix until combined.

Gradually add additional flour until the dough forms a ball. Depending on how wet your yoghurt is, you’ll usually add about 1/2 to 3/4 cup more.

Turn the dough onto a well-floured surface and knead briefly until smooth and no longer sticky. Add a little more flour if needed; the dough should hold its shape and not stick to the work surface.

Divide the dough into four equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, then cut each rope into equal bite-sized pieces. Expect about eight pieces per rope for roughly 32 bites total.

Arrange the pretzel bites on the prepared baking tray and bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with salt.

IN THE AIR FRYER

Prepare the dough the same way as for the oven: stir 1 cup Greek yoghurt, add 1 cup flour, then gradually add more flour until the dough forms a ball (usually an extra 1/2 to 3/4 cup).

Knead the dough on a floured surface until it is smooth and not sticky. Divide into four pieces, roll into ropes, and cut into bite-sized pieces (about 32 total).

Place the pretzel bites in a single layer in the air fryer basket. If your basket is small, cook in batches so pieces do not overlap. Air fry at 180°C / 350°F for 7–10 minutes, shaking the basket occasionally, until golden brown.

TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE

  • Use thick Greek yoghurt (regular or low-fat varieties are fine). Avoid runny plain yoghurts — they won’t yield the right dough consistency.
  • If you don’t have self-raising flour, combine plain/all-purpose flour with baking powder at a ratio of 1 cup flour to 2 teaspoons baking powder.
  • Work quickly: this dough is best rolled and cooked soon after mixing.
  • For deeper color, brush bites with butter, return to the oven or air fryer for 1–2 minutes, then brush again and season with salt.
  • Pretzel salt provides an authentic finish, but flaky sea salt or regular sea salt are fine substitutes.

  3. Add more flour gradually until the dough forms a ball (usually another 1/2–3/4 cup).
  4. Turn onto a floured surface and knead until the dough is smooth and not sticky.
  5. Divide into four pieces, roll into ropes, and cut into bite-sized pieces (about 32 total).
  6. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with salt.

Notes

  • Use thick Greek yoghurt for best results; thin plain yoghurts will not create the right texture.
  • To make self-raising flour from plain flour, add 2 teaspoons baking powder per cup of flour.
  • Work quickly with the dough and cook shortly after mixing for best texture.
  • For a deeper golden color, brush with butter and return to heat for a minute or two, then brush again and add salt.
