Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed a relaxing start to the year. After the holidays I always feel motivated to declutter and refresh our home, and this year I focused on my craft and office area. Over three days I sorted through supplies, cleared out clothing and shoes from the master bedroom, and reorganized my workspace. Tackling the office first felt great — everything looks simpler and easier to use. Today I’m sharing how I organized the space as part of the Michaels Makers Fresh Start Challenge.
As a craft blogger it’s easy to accumulate supplies, so I often find myself holding onto items “just in case.” That mindset led to clutter and stress, so I decided to downsize and only keep what I actually use. Consolidating supplies into containers helped me assess what to keep and what to let go of, and it instantly made the space neater and more functional.
Storage Cart Office Organization
I found a white storage cart at Michaels that fits my office perfectly. It’s compact yet roomy enough for craft supplies. I used small white boxes to corral items like glue, staplers and tape. A white-and-wood box works great for Lightbox letters and other specialty items, keeping them accessible but tidy.
The vinyl storage boxes I mentioned previously sit neatly on top of the cart and hold frequently used office supplies. Having designated containers makes it easy to find things quickly and keeps surfaces clear.
I also added a large floral box for bulkier items. It fits well on the cart and hides contents so the area looks calm and uncluttered. There are many decorative box styles available that serve both function and style — I’m considering matching ones for my daughter’s craft corner.
To make the space inviting I added a simple vase with pink hydrangea. Little decor touches keep the area pleasant while still being practical for work and crafting.
Having an organized workspace has made a big difference in how I feel about tackling projects. I’m planning to continue decluttering other rooms this week — not always fun, but definitely worth the effort for a calmer, more functional home.
