Planning nourishing, fiber-rich meals and snacks is important every day. But what do you do when your schedule is packed with work, travel, and you have to eat on the go? Recently I had one of those busy days, so I reached for my favorite portable snack: Metamucil Fiber Thins.

Fiber Thins come in three flavors—Chocolate, Cinnamon Spice, and Apple Crisp—and each serving (2 Thins) delivers 4 to 5 grams of fiber for about 100 calories. They contain natural psyllium, a soluble fiber that supports digestive regularity. Fiber in general helps promote digestive health and can curb hunger between meals. Since many Americans fall short of the recommended daily fiber intake—38 grams for men and 25 grams for women—snacking on Fiber Thins makes it easier to reach that goal.
Now, about that busy day.

I may look calm in this photo, but it was the calm before a busy stretch. Every summer I split time between Nantucket and my home base in Lexington, MA. When I’m on Nantucket I continue my work—blogging, podcasting, recipe testing, and writing—and I also teach cooking classes for families at Nantucket Culinary. On this Tuesday I taught my first class of the season and right after class I took the one-hour ferry back to Hyannis, rented a car, and drove two hours home.
Packing, snacking, cooking, traveling: with Fiber Thins and a reusable water bottle, I was ready for the day.

My husband always teases me about traveling with extra luggage. I tell him I need the space for snacks.

The cooking class went smoothly. I demonstrated how roasting radishes brings out their sweetness, and we prepared a peach, avocado, and cabbage slaw, salmon tacos with a lime and cilantro marinade, homemade guacamole, and my apple and berry crisp. After class I walked to the ferry terminal and headed back to the mainland.

Even on hectic days you can plan ahead and eat well. Whether I’m heading out for yoga, a bike ride, or traveling for work, I always bring a reusable water bottle to avoid single-use plastics. I also pack nonperishable snacks like Metamucil Fiber Thins. At home I enjoy topping them with almond butter and sliced strawberries or with Cheddar cheese and apple slices for a quick, balanced bite.

My summer calendar is busy—today I’m visiting my parents in Connecticut, then this weekend I’ll be back on Nantucket. My next cooking class at Nantucket Culinary is July 10th, and I’m already thinking about what to cook next.
What about you—any travel plans this summer or will you be enjoying quieter days at home? Whatever your plans, I’d love to hear how you stay fueled and keep your digestion moving during busy times.
